Phoenix Point has some very big shoes to fill. One of my all-time favorite games is X-COM 2: War of the Chosen. I have eagerly awaited even a sliver of news about X-COM 3 and have only been met with disappointment. From the release of Chimera Squad, which carries the X-COM name without anything that makes X-COM great. To the reveal that Marvel’s Midnight Suns “won’t share a single mechanic with X-COM”.
Battle Brothers is a brutal game, to the degree that it took me four different attempts to review it off and on for the span of an entire year. That’s because I simply couldn’t progress far enough to properly review it. The game continually handed me my own ass, even on the lowest difficulty.
Storytelling is an aspect of games that falls a little low on the list of things that matter to me. While I can enjoy a good story, I’d prefer it in a good book or movie. I like games, to be games first and foremost. Yet, there is one type of storytelling that I can’t resist, the kind that isn’t written yet.
Tainted Grail: Conquest is a deck builder based on Arthurian Legend, and I’m not talking Disney’s Arthur Pendragon or that snarky young Merlin show. The world of Tainted Grail is dark, creepy, and sometimes gross.
