SHŌBU was a strange experience for me. I prefer heavier games, and SHŌBU is about as far from heavy as you can get. The rules can be summed up with a single page. Chess is a fairly good comparison, except SHŌBU is even simpler than chess as there is only one type of “game piece” so to speak.
The Hood Scenario pack is interesting because the main focus isn’t truly on The Hood himself. His scenario only makes up 16 of the 78 cards. The vast majority of the pack revolves around the inclusion of a whopping 9 modular encounter sets. Plus alternate versions of the Standard and Expert Sets.
With the addition of War Machine, Iron Man isn’t the only guy flying around in a fancy suit. War Machine captures a very different feel from the Iron Man hero, despite wearing an armored suit designed by Tony Stark.
One Step From Eden is a rogue-lite deck builder with a pretty significant twist. The game is played in real-time. You move around the small gridded battlefield dodging and slinging spells without the comfort of your enemies waiting their turn.
