Telepath Tactics: Liberated is a remaster of Telepath Tactics, a Fire Emblem-inspired game that was released back in 2015. In Telepath Tactics, you control a large number of unique characters in turn-based combat. One of the game’s sticking points is how Telepath Tactics places a focus on using the environment to your advantage. Shoving enemies into the water, blowing up bridges, and forming chokepoints to name a few.
Root is a game of unforgiving and brutal war. Don’t let the cute visuals fool you. The cats are as likely to disembowel you as the birds are to peck your eyes out.
Phoenix Point has some very big shoes to fill. One of my all-time favorite games is X-COM 2: War of the Chosen. I have eagerly awaited even a sliver of news about X-COM 3 and have only been met with disappointment. From the release of Chimera Squad, which carries the X-COM name without anything that makes X-COM great. To the reveal that Marvel’s Midnight Suns “won’t share a single mechanic with X-COM”.
Gears Tactics convinced me that pretty much every videogame IP should get the X-COM treatment. Halo, Death Stranding, The Elder Scrolls, all of it. It’s incredibly fascinating to take an existing game and watch all of its mechanics translate into a tactical turn-based version of itself.
