Dune Imperium quickly took its spot among my favorite games due to its strategic depth, clever use of deck building, and strong solo mode. A common theme of board game expansions is to “fix” issues that the original game had. In my opinion, however. There wasn’t a lot to fix in Dune Imperium.
Out with the beer pong and in with drunken dragon slaying. Drinks & Daggers is a cooperative card game about smashing things while getting smashed. Literally, characters in the game are stronger when they are smashed.
Marvel Champions is a great game, but, it’s not always the most balanced game, and while it has improved as time goes on, some issues still exist. In part 1 of Fixing the Imbalance, I went over the basic philosophy behind the game’s issues and suggested simple tweaks for some of the weaker characters and a deck-building restriction to keep allies from overwhelming decks.
The phrase “spicing things up” takes on a slightly different meaning with Dune Imperium. Where said spice is a super drug excreted by worms large enough to feature in a 90’s B movie starring Kevin Bacon.
