Bad North is a minimalistic and simple strategy game with fun and satisfying game mechanics. You control little squads of armed warriors on the run from an ever-approaching Viking tide. Your troops bounce from island to island on an overworld map and fight off hordes of Vikings to safeguard the houses on them.
Driven Out is a simple game. You traverse the 2D world in a side-scrolling fashion and kill things with your sword. You can perform a high, low and middle block as well as a high, low and middle attack. Time your block just right and you perform a parry. However, the game’s concept is one of brutal difficulty and pattern recognition.
Stranded Sails is a game about exploration and farming. You are part of a ship crew that ends up stranded on a set of mysterious islands. Your task is to reunite the other crew members, build a camp, farm food and uncover the strange mysteries regarding the islands.
Crying Suns is a tactical and tough game. It features difficulty settings, but its nature as a rogue-lite means you can expect to fail quite a bit. The game separate’s itself from those that inspire it by weaving a deep story-line and a ton of lore into its randomly generated chaos.
It is impossible not to compare Shortest Trip to Earth and FTL. If I didn’t already know better, I’d assume the game was a direct sequel to FTL upon first glance.
